Former Gartner Analyst · Head of AWS Startups Support

Over a decade in AI. Here's what I've learned from the trenches.

Every week I share what I'm actually seeing — what's working, what's overhyped, and where I'd focus if I were making your decisions. Grounded in real operator experience at AWS and Gartner. Practical by design.

Why This Exists

AI is moving fast. Knowing what actually matters for your business is genuinely hard.

Every week there's a new model, a new framework, a new capability being called a game-changer. Some of it is. Most of it needs context before you know how to respond. The signal-to-noise ratio is rough right now.

I've spent over 14 years in roles where I had to know the difference — advising organizations at Gartner, supporting the fastest-scaling AI startups at AWS, and building products myself. I've specialized in AI over the last 8 years and I've seen what works in production and what looks good in a demo.

Operator's Log is my attempt to share that perspective. Not the loudest take. Not a vendor pitch. Just honest, grounded observations from someone who's been accountable for real AI outcomes — and is still in the middle of it.

If you're making real decisions about AI — for your team, your product, or your career — I hope it's useful.

What You Get

One email. Every week. Practical AI perspective from the operator's seat.

  1. 01

    What's actually working.

Which AI approaches ship to production. Which die in the pilot. Weekly intel, without the vendor spin.

  2. 02

    What to bet on next.

Every week surfaces a new “must-have.” Most are noise. The few worth your budget, your headcount, and your team's attention.

  3. 03

    How to build with it.

What works in production. What breaks at scale. What the demo conveniently leaves out.

FAQ

Before you decide.

Another AI newsletter. Why this one?
Most AI newsletters are written by people covering AI from the outside. This one is written by someone who leads AI startup support at AWS, spent years directing AI strategy and running a team of Analysts advising 14,000+ organizations at Gartner. I still ship AI products as a full-stack developer. I'm not a journalist or a pundit — I'm an operator, and that shapes everything I write.
How often will I hear from you?
I publish once a week.
Who do you write for?

Four readers, one common thread: people making real decisions about AI.

  • The AI Startup Founder — seed to Series C, building an AI-native company.
  • The Corporate AI Leader — VP, SVP, or C-suite at a 500–50,000+ employee company, accountable for AI strategy.
  • The Rising Tech Leader — senior IC to director in tech, positioning for an AI-fluent next move.
  • The AI-Aware Professional — manager to VP who knows AI matters but is overwhelmed by the noise.

Budget, headcount, or career capital on the line. Not browsers, not learners.

If you want a grounded perspective on AI from someone still in the work — I'd be glad to have you along.
